fits perfectly Explanation: The cylinder fits perfectly into the channel/trough. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 days (2014-09-03 21:10:44 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- If the cylinder fits "sensiblement" = "visiblement, manifestement, tangiblement", admittedly "perfectly" may be an overstatement. If English doesn't have a neat equivalent for "contre-forme", then how do we express that the positive shape of the cylinder fits the negative shape of the channel? Perhaps it doesn't fit perfectly; it might wobble about or the channel might need to be stretched a bit. So, would it be a better solution to say that it clearly fits the channel? or that it can be seen that it fits more or less well? -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 days (2014-09-03 21:28:46 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Just seen, from the Discussion, that this is about curling tongs. In which case, hair has to fit between the barrel or rod and the clip. So, perhaps "perfectly" is best omitted. |
