Un po' di contesto:

Io avrei pensato a "Si configura come mentore o "guida" per gli altri", ma non sono convinta.

Explanation:
"Fa da compagno o da guida/mentore nei confronti degli altri".

"Mentore" è una parola che ho trovato spesso in ambito educativo anche in italiano.

"Si configura come" è un po' troppo formale, secondo me.

agree  Pompeo Lattanzi: Magari "compagno di lavoro" tanto per evitare colorazioni più o meno politiche. Spesso nel parlato "buddy" va tradotto con "compare" o "compagnuccio di merenda". Non strafare, è qualcuno allo stesso livello, non un tutore.

I think that a non technical everyday word in inverted commas is the best way to translate this everyday word in inverted commas. I know buddy has been posted already, but hyphenated to a technical term. "buddy" is first and foremost a friend and an equal.
In Padi diving the "buddy system" is precisely that, where you both help each other on a friendly basis.

"fare da spalla"


Explanation:
si sposa bene col "fare da mentore" ("acts as a mentor") che viene prima, cioè: "fa da mentore e da spalla", si può utilizzare lo stesso verbo e la frase va via liscia. del resto il "buddy" ti fa effettivamente "da spalla", all'occasione, perchè è amico(ne), ma anche compare, complice, ecc.
