Dutch to English translations [PRO] Education / Pedagogy / Transcript
There is one line in proofreading assignment. I can understand that this is German and it is translated as: The assessment form is associated with the final examination of the part-time bachelor.
perhaps, that supplement is just what my mother had to get for me one time, some fifteen years after I graduated and was already living here: for IDW/ NUFFIC purposes . It does say "TRANSCRIPTS"on that document - just a list of all the grades. I had to pay for that service.
I am talking about the Dutch situation and pooja-chic's question is about the Dutch situation and here in this country, upon graduation, you get a certificate and a 'beoordelingsstaat' or simply a 'cijferlijst'.
In addition to this and separately from this you can apply for these transcripts/diploma-supplements.
In my case, given the nature of the course, they supplied the diploma supplement as a service.
Thing is in US they don't even have grades. I mean they have grades, you as a student get graded on your courses, but in the end these grades get lumped together in a GPA. And that is what's important in a US college. This GPA is worked out after every semester, so you do have access to your grades of course, but no, you don't get any special paper as an acknowledgment of your efforts for the semester.
How would you call them before this special request is being made? This is what I am talking about all the time. Pooja-chic's question refers to the pre-application status.
I have here my certificate for graduating from what they call the University of Applied Sciences. I am talking now about my certificate for Translator English, where they call me Bachelor of Translation.
And this consists of the certificate accompanied by the 'cijferlijst'.
In addition to this they gave me a Diploma Supplement (a model developed by the European Commission).
The purpose of the supplement is to provide sufficient independent data to improve the international 'transparancy' and fair academic and professional recognition of qualifications (diplomas, degrees, certificates, etc.). Etc.
Hi. Your links all show transcripts. For the simple reason that "grading lists", (in your links as a direct translation from the Dutch "cijferlijst"), in English normally appear only in connection with sports or primary school. All higher education facilities use transcripts, which are available on special request by the student during his/her study with a valid student ID card, or on request by a third party in possession of a power of attorney (principle being you the student). Or, transcripts are sent (also on request) from one institution to another. There are NO pieces of paper issued automatically at the end of a Bachelor degree (there are Certificates to show that you finished a course of study, such as a Continuing Education Training/Course, etc. ). That means there is no college parallel to a ‘cijferlijst’. Since it exists as a phenomenon only in a primary school (or sports related), I think using “grading list” in this context would be denigrating the client. Main point being that colleges in US do not release grades without the explicit permission of the student
and not in proportion to all the valuable material offered by me here.
If you wanted to take the trouble you can find a significant number of examples where 'grading list' in fact is being used in this context.
And what you say there that they won't understand it what is being meant seems highly unlikely to me. Either they would understand it directly or they could easily confer it from the context.
Apparently even pooja-chic seemed to doubt initially. She said 'thank you' to me, and should I translate 'grading list going with' or 'grading list with', could it be a bit shorter?
And then she changed her mind.
Also, I am still doubting about this official status and not yet fully convinced. I am not sure if you can translate any 'beoordelingsstaat' / 'cijferlijst' as transcript.
Possibly, but I am not sure yet. Can't go to the bottom now.
@Michael. Thank you .Even I wanted to comment when I checked the question marked as non Pro. Not having Dutch as my working language is really not a valid reason to mark it as Non Pro but I preferred not to poke my nose. Thank you so much for being not biased (:
'grading list' is definitely wrong in this context.
'list of grades' is just not what these things are called. If everyone calls them ‘transcripts’, and you call it a ‘list of grades’, no one is going to understand what you are talking about.
You can't label a PRO-level question non-PRO just because the Asker is not in a position to judge its level. What kind of logic is that? She might not be able to, but we can.
… are definitely transcripts. There are various names for them: transcript, transcripts, transcript of records, grade transcripts, official transcripts, unofficial transcripts, etc.
Just asked my wife, who is British, and went to Cambridge, and she says they call them transcripts there too. Not that it matters because the context is US, but just thought I'd mention it.
About that extra step you mentioned, I disagree. Also, those are Dutch links, and there are various kinds of transcripts (official and unofficial) in US English.
Institutional cooperation • Nuffic Neso Desk in India can help filter the mediocre institutions as this was indicated by the participants as an obstacle on the Indian market. A and B grading lists need to be consulted by Dutch institutions who are looking for partner in India. Accredited institutions can still be mediocre (usually they lack good infrastructure and staff), Nuffic Neso Desk can check for you in a general sense. Information on the institutions’ strengths within specific fields of study or disciplines is something the Dutch institutions should check themselves.
Can you provide us with any English-language websites where the term ‘grading list’ is used in an education context? I can't find a single one. Also, ‘grading list’ sounds wrong to me. Shouldn’t it be sth like ‘list of grades’. ‘Grading list’ sounds like a list of sth to use to grade someone, not a list of grades.
I also added two examples of a 'beoordelingsstaat' in the context of bachelor study programmes.
This is not to do with transcripts but just about your study results conveniently arranged in a list, each item graded.
Everyone gets such a list when they graduate, in addition to the certificate.
You can, of course, have this grading list certified, but that's another story, that is to say, a 'certified grading list' (gewaarmerkte beoordelingsstaat).
and in preparation for further study/work, you should also not forget to ask your professor for a recommendation letter, which will then include topics in it like "Personal Assessment", ""Professionalism Level", mention the minor if you had any (although the minor should appear on the transcripts as well) , etc. Perhaps that is what is meant here?
I have a feeling that if they meant ‘transcripts’, they would just have used the word ‘cijferlijst’.
See e.g.:
‘Some exchange students need to have an overview of their grades a.s.a.p. and cannot wait for their official transcripts to be sent by the Exchange Office. In that case, you can make a request at the Student Support Desk for your certified academic transcripts. You can either visit the SSD or- if you already left Groningen - fill in this online request form. Please make sure to add in the comments section that you would like to receive the document attached by email or by regular mail (make sure to provide your address!).’ (http://www.rug.nl/feb/education/exchange/courseinformation/r... )
‘Gewaarmerkte cijferlijst aanvragen Met dit formulier vraag je een gewaarmerkte cijferlijst aan om te gebruiken voor sollicitaties, studie in het buitenland, etc. De cijferlijst ligt de volgende werkdag voor je klaar bij de Student Support Desk op vertoon van je collegekaart. Let op! Deze service is alleen beschikbaar voor studenten van de Faculteit Economie en Bedrijfskunde!’ (http://www.rug.nl/feb/education/exchange/courseinformation/g... )
Without more context, and if this list/report is in fact about the grades only (and not sth like the ‘Beoordelingsstaat/Assessment report’ mentioned in the ref/link I gave below in the Reference section: http://goo.gl/WOiUQP ), then I think that ‘transcripts’ (or transcript of records’ or ‘grade transcripts) might be correct.

Grading comment
Thank you
19 mins confidence:
beoordelingsstaat
grading list
Explanation:
Your application should be accompanied by your Curriculum Vitae, a copy of your bachelor diploma and grading list, a short letter of motivation and a short essay (max 2 A4) in which you describe what you find particularly interesting in the topic you would like to research.

I already noticed 'certified grading list'.
Your question is, however, 'beoordelingsstaat' (rather than 'gewaarmerkte beoordelingsstaat) and given the context it seemed more or less obvious to me this referred to a grading list.
I am always willing to help and have it certified for you as well. :-)
Here you are.
1.How to obtain a Transcript / Certified Grading List?
Answer You can go to the Front Office Desk, during their regular opening hours, to get a transcript.
NB when you are abroad for your 5th semester you are also allowed to obtain the transcript digitally. For this send a request via the CONTACT-button, see below.

So your translation should be something like this:
Beoordelingsstaat behorende bij het afsluitend examen van de deeltijdse bacheloropleiding
Grading list going together with the final exam of the of the part-time bachelor study programme.
Good luck.

Pooja-chic, I don't agree with Tina Vonhof.
According to the Wikipedia link you have 'transcripts of records' in the EU. However, as I have said before, this involves a further step:
Transcript of Records
At the end of the student’s study period in Groningen the International Office will send a questionnaire to the student on which the student must indicate the courses and exams that were taken.
After the student has returned this questionnaire to the International Office, all the student’s results will be checked and when all results are available, the official transcript of records will be made.
The transcript will be sent both to the home university (original document) and the student (certified copies).
Transcript of Records Unfortunately, your results will not be transferred automatically to the student administration at your Home University. Therefore, before you leave Utrecht University, you need to apply for your transcript of records: an overview of all course results at Utrecht University. Please note: if you forget this, you will not receive any results.

Thank you for contacting and talking to me, pooja-chic.
I suppose your English will be superior to mine.
Other options might be:
The grading list part of... The grading list appendent to... The grading list with... (yes, I think so) The grading list accessory to... (possibly) The grading list belonging to...(possibly)

Notes to answerer
Asker: Grading list going together with the final examination ?
Can it be simplified ..like Grading list accompanied ...or grading list with?
Asker: No one is superior. Thank you for appreciating but we learn while sharing.
