I want to avoid using the word "solidary" and have been considering "fraternal" but not sure that does it...

A previous entry has "community support activities" but for me this doesn't fit so well in the context of my document, which talks about the divide between rich and poor countries and initiatives to starting thinking about the impact of their actions on people in other countries.

Any bright ideas, please? :-)

Thanks!

solidarity actions
Explanation:
To me, a native English speaker, and also someone who has worked many years in the field of international human rights, either "solidarity actions" or "actions of solidarity" sound the most natural.

Solidaridad (and thus, solidarity) has a connotation that is slightly different from simply volunteering one's time to a charity or being an ethical person. I always like to refer back to quotes by the writer Eduardo Galeano:
"La caridad es humillante porque se ejerce verticalmente y desde arriba; la solidaridad es horizontal e implica respetuo mutuo."

"I don't believe in charity. I believe in solidarity. Charity is so vertical. It goes from the top to the bottom. Solidarity is horizontal. It respects the other person. I have a lot to learn from other people."
-Eduardo Galeano

In terms of usage, the term "solidarity actions" returns 119,000 hits on google

And "actions of solidarity" returns 132,000.

Whereas "solidarity practices" only returns 5,750 hits (https://www.google.com/search?q="actions of solidarity"&ie=u...

The paragraph is talking about "sensibilización", which in English is generally "awareness raising", and it is natural that awareness raising would foster "actions of solidarity".

Asker: Interesting comment Escobarramsey... maybe I should just use the word "solidary" and stop worrying about it. I just prefer to use natural English wherever possible and I'm pretty sure I've never heard anyone say solidary ;-)

ethical practices

Explanation:
If we are talking generally about international aid, volunteer work, charitable donations or, for instance, buying fair-trade products, ethical practices would be a good umbrella term.

Another option, albeit a slightly long-winded one, would be "practices that show solidarity"

grassroots initiatives OR: 'supporting community activities'

Explanation:
For your context, I think this is best. I think it implies solidarity. My second choice would be the one you found on KudoZ--namely, 'community support activities' or 'supporting community activities' or 'community support' alone.

Definitions:

noun
plural noun: grassroots

the most basic level of an activity or organization. "the whole campaign would be conducted at the grass roots"
synonyms: popular, of-the-people, bottom-up, nonhierarchical, rank-and-file
"a grassroots movement"
ordinary people regarded as the main body of an organization's membership.
"you have lost touch with the grass roots of the party"

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grassroots
Wikipedia
A grassroots movement (often referenced in the context of a political movement) is driven by a community's politics. The term implies that the creation of the movement and the group supporting it are natural and spontaneous, highlighting the differences between this and a movement that is orchestrated by traditional power structures. Grassroots movements are often at the local level, as many volunteers in the community give their time to support the local party, which can lead to helping the national party. For instance, a grassroots movement can lead to significant voter registration for a political party, which in turn helps the state and national parties.
