French term or phrase: petite ligne bordante axillaire
Hi
I am translating an X-ray report of the chest and would like to know the meaning of this phrase. Context:

Thorax de face et de profil:

Emoussement du cul de sac costo-diaphragmatique droit.
Petite ligne bordante axillaire.
Pas d'anomalie hémithoracique gauche

Thank you!

English translation:Small streak (or line) bordering the axilla.
Explanation:
I would translate it literally.
The x-ray consists of black, white and grey patterns. An opacity appears as white or grey, depending on its density. A "ligne" is an opacity of a particular shape. I would call it a streak. It is a description of the opacity, not a reference to the axillary line.
Moreover be careful not to make any assumption as to its cause, such as "pleurisy". It could be due to many different things, scarring, infection, tumour - who knows? It might even be an artifact.

Slight axillary opacity

Explanation:
I agree with Elizabeth - this is a term used in medicine for pleurisy. It means the doctor saw a bit of liquid in the lungs along the axillary line. Here is a reference document in French: http://www.splf.org/s/IMG/doc/Epanchement_pleural_liquidien_...

Hope this helps!

Asker: Thank you very much! This is very helpful:)

Asker: As for making assumptions, well after so many medical translations, I think physicians rarely make definitive statements, unless they have firm evidence/reviewed evidence! Cheers!
