Os portadores do mixoma cardíaco se apresentam com uma tríade clássica dos sintomas: manifestações constitucionais, embólicas ou obstrutivas4. Estes tumores surgem no endocárdio, de uma célula mesenquimal ou multipotente do subendocárdio, formando uma massa branca, amarelada ou amarronzada, freqüentemente recoberta por trombos. Os tumores apresentam tamanho médio de 5cm de diâmetro e peso de 50g a 60g3. Geralmente encontram-se envoltos em um estroma mixomatoso e, histologicamente, distinguem-se de trombos organizados por estarem recobertos de endotélio4. |
