(real-time) banknote deposit function
Explanation:
Or, "cash deposit validation".

I know they ask to suggest just one answer and there are two different answers.

However, I propose them as having precisely the same meaning, but leave it to you to decide which one feels better.

I'm working on the basis of some results from linguee and Google, but in my opinion there's basically nothing else that would make sense in this context.

I guess the ATM counts the money you deposit, although I'm not clear on the specifics of the technology itself.

Thank you all; rkillings explanation has been the most useful. I ended up with "real-time cheque/banknote deposit validation" in an introductory passage, abbreviated in subsequent text to "deposit validation".

neutral  rkillings: Doesn't quite do it here. ATMs have been accepting deposits for decades. What is new is the OCR that recognizes banknotes/reads cheque amounts and *proposes a value* for confirmation by the customer (rather than the other way round)..

-> I don't think I've used one of these machines, so perhaps I am not 100% clear on the technology being referred to. I thought it would allow same day clearing when depositing cash because the machine can see that the money is real.
