See e.g.:

‘We were then referred to the peripatetic teacher of the deaf, who came to the house, and it was on his instigation that Michael went to the school for the deaf. After half a term there they decided that they could not keep him because he wasn't a normal deaf child and they could not cope with his behaviour. Obviously the rituals were showing through and we actually met a lady’ (Autism and Understanding: The Waldon Approach to Child Development, By Walter Solomon) (http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=HNPQMW8dD30C&pg=PA151&lpg... )

Compare the above quote with, e.g.:

‘Ambulante begeleiding is een vorm van hulpverlening waarbij een ambulant begeleider naar de basisschool komt om een leerling met een rugzakje individueel te begeleiden. Het kan gaan om slechthorende kinderen, kinderen met taal-/spraakproblemen of leerlingen met een stoornis in het autistisch spectrum.’ (http://wij-leren.nl/ambulante-begeleiding.php )

Special (educational) needs teacher/assistant

Explanation:
This is what it is called in Canada, an SEN, and apparently also in the UK according to the website below. They are specially trained teachers, who are not part of the school staff of any particular school but travel to different schools.

neutral  writeaway: special ed teachers can be part of the school staff. with specifically NL terminology,it's safest to rely on Nuffic- it's been around for years. It's like Jurlex -even if the English is sometimes weird/so ignore the Dutch-+ come up with "whatever" in En?
5 hrs
-> Yes it sounds weird and if an English translation is needed shouldn't it sound good in English?

neutral  Michael Beijer: It appears, however, that this person does more than just teach or assist, they also provide advice, and draw up a ‘begeleidingsplan’. (See: http://www.recoostmarke.nl/ambulantebegeleiding.html )

-> If you look at the job description, the duties of the SEN include a whole list of things.

Temporary Technical/Teacher Assistant

Explanation:
'Temporary' implies a continuity of jobs in different locations. Dus, mobile.

'Assistant', because Teacher Assistants as instructors guide and support their students in a specific area.

On top of it, it seems applicable and used in both UK and the US, and other places http://www.ananzi.co.za/jobs/laboratory-assistant-jobs.html

neutral  writeaway: temporary opens up an entirely different can of worms
33 mins
-> how so? from the perspective of the school that's hiring, that's just what it is.

neutral  Michael Beijer: I don’t see how this captures the meaning of the Dutch term, at all. This person doesn’t merely ‘assist’ teachers. They manage the entire education of the student in question, as well as deal with their teachers, parents, and draw up a ‘begeleidingsplan’.
46 mins
-> yes, of course, but they do that as an extra for the kids that need it, while these kids continue to receive exposure to all the standard educational methods too.
