Science - Archaeology / disaster scene delineation
French term or phrase: quadrillage du site
This is for a government post-disaster planning document. Canadian French.

Here is the complete sentence:
"Les techniciens en scène de crime du corps de police responsable de l’événement procèdent au quadrillage du site et effectuent les relevés topographiques, les photographies, les vidéos et le plan du site."

I understand that this means to mark out the site with a grid so as to be able to measure distances from different human remains, etc.

But since I am no fan of police procedurals, I am not sure of the usual terminology used in English.
"Mark the site with a grid" ? There must be a shorter way to phrase this?

"quadrillage du site"
the site grid

Explanation:
I don't think there is a better way of saying it, actually - I'd use "The crime scene technicians [...] establish the site grid".

agree  B D Finch: That does seem to be an American term; it only gets four UK hits. I checked because it sounded too ugly to be right, but it is.
