Portuguese term or phrase: em caso de dúvida
Hi.
I know what this means, but I was surprised to find it in the document I am currently working on. The specific page that I found this on is a certificate issued by a clerk at a Portuguese court, stating that the photocopies that are enclosed with his letter (containing the judgment) are faithful copies of the originals.
The full phrase is as follows:
É quanto me cumpre certificar em face dos autos a que me reporto, em caso de dúvida e de harmonia com o douto solicitado.
I'm not sure how best to translate the "em caso de dúvida" part - does it mean that the clerk will consult the instructions given to him by the Court in the event of any doubt?
Any thoughts would be very gratefully received.
