English term or phrase: mill affair
As the race sped past the LRC it was clear that Oxford were going to win...then Cambridge fought back and looked the stronger, but didn’t press their advantage...then Oxford pulled back...this is all very rare in this race and it was shaping up to be a memorable one...then it all stopped, man in water!...race somehow restarted after 30 mins...warning to Oxford and a clash of oars resulting in another piece of flotsam to flow downstream...an Oxford oar...race all but over as Cambridge (big underdogs before the race) cruised away leaving the rather bizarre sight of a crew member still going through the rowing motion without the rest of his oar...then an Oxford crew man collapsed at the end and was taken to hospital...apart from that, it was a pretty run of the mill affair!
