E così ebbe termine per il Leoncino la triste processione ogni sera a chiedere al ringhioso Britti le cinque e le diecimila lire per uscire con la ragazza, o per pagare la spesa della cuoca del giorno dopo. Incominciarono le vincite costanti, prima un milione, poi due, poi dieci, poi venti. Poi io morii. Non so che cosa sia avvenuto dopo. Ma echi mi erano giunti di nove macchine, di villeggiature a Cannes, di prestiti senza interessi ad amici pericolanti. Ne fece uno anche a me.
