It is this question that we will examine Explanation: I assume that the phrase is from the introduction of the book --in which case the future tense is called for. You can use "debate," but it sounds to me more like the question of which theory is true which is going to be examined, in the course of which the "debate" over why one is superior to the other will be discussed. |

It sounds unnatural and abrupt to end an abstract in EN with a sentence such as this. I would *start* the abstract with "The following article [or "paper"] examines the debate between..." With abstracts in EN, the tendency is to let readers know directly and early on what the paper is going to be about. |
