Explanation:
Payment received from a customer that could not be allocated to specific invoices. This allows the customer to claim later "But I've already paid that invoice with the cheque I sent last month!". To avoid this delaying tactic, allocation of payments against specific invoices (i.e. knowing what the customer thought he was paying) is important.
