Spesso queste ultime domande sono formulate con congiunzioni copulative (“e”) o disgiuntive (“o”) che nel linguaggio comune sono utilizzate in modo sovrapponibile e che pertanto gli intervistati spesso non sanno come interpretare (Bruschi, 1990). Anche le domande poste in forma negativa, soprattutto quando si chiede il grado di accordo sugli item proposti, sono un tipico esempio di sotto-determinazione.
