is not actually pejorative and is widely used by the press and other media. However, given the political atmosphere in Brazil with a pseudo-socialist party in power, the term "elitista" acquired a pejorative meaning, and "elite" was just implicitly affected by that.

Apparently not all Brazilians interpret "elite" as having a pejorative sense, please have a look at this: http://www.puggina.org/@@backup/outrosautores/news.php?detai...
I'm only trying to help you and not looking to any "terminological wars" around the meaning of elite, all the more so as I'm not Brazilian...

Desculpem, significado pejorativo de que expressão? Não creio que a minha sugestão ou a da outra Teresa tenha um significado pejorativo. A nata, a elite os bambambãs são os tops no setor. Também gostei dos "mais importantes/destacados". Naturalmente seria importante mexer no texto dependendo do opção. Particularmente eu não vejo porque manter "who is Who" se existe a possibilidade de tradução com uma expressão de mesmo sentido.

Na verdade, há um sentido de "quem são os maiorais", como citam o João e a Teresa em suas sugestões. Porém, no próprio contexto, logo em seguida há a expressão "major players", portanto, ou você usa "quem é quem" e mantém os "major players", ou usa uma expressão como "a elite" (Teresa) ou "os mais importantes" (João) e elimina os "major players" da sequência.

1. a reference work containing short biographical entries on the outstanding persons in a country, industry, profession, etc.: a who's who in automotive engineering.
