There's a very clear illustration of the "caissons" in the document: one upside-down L-shaped hub is placed on a right-way-up L-shaped hub to form a "rectangular" volume; each "hub" contains a double bed and table:

(Personally I prefer "module" to "hub" as a descriptive name)

Le principe constructif est basé sur la réalisation de dortoirs composés de plusieurs **caissons** formés par 2 modules, dénommés « HUB ». Ces « HUB » sont des volumes privatifs en forme de « L » superposés pour le couchage. Les dortoirs sont contigus à des zones de détentes, de rencontre et de travail puis de sanitaires et douches collectifs.

Ces « HUB » ont la particularité de permettre à l’utilisateur de préserver son inimité et son confort.
Description du module et du caisson :

Le module (HUB), en forme de « L » est un volume privatif privé de surface limitée qui offre à l’intérieur confort et intimité. Il est équipé d’un très grand lit à deux places, d’une table de travail.

Les mesures de chaque **caisson**, composé de 2 modules superposés, sont :

- Dimensions du **caisson** (L x l x h) : 4120 x 1950 x 2500 mm

I think that "unit" would work.
As an aside, the source text's use of "HUB" is problematic and makes me wonder whether it is intended to be an acronym (e.g. Human Utilitarian Bedspace; Horrible Uncomfortable Bungaloid). I think you may be right to avoid it unless it is an acronym, trademark or whatever.

agree  Tony M: I suspect the (misguided) idea is that it is the 'hub' of your life, with all the other communal areas mentioned located around it; reversing the notion of bedrooms grouped round the 'hub' of a communal lounge, for example.

Explanation:
Well, since they have used the term 'hub', that at least leaves you 'module' available for the complete thing! If not, why not simply 'unit'? Once on the plans, the two 'hubs' are going to be treated together as a 'unit', so... why not?
