extending of borders Explanation: Maybe quite far removed from the French, but has the same meaning in the context and goes well with what immediately follows (permettant la venue de nouveaux voisins contribuables) for example: Of particular interest are the creation of Euroregions, mutual perceptions of Poles and Germans at the border, EU Regional Policy, media debates on the *extension* of the Schengen area. welcoming newcomers (to our community) Explanation: Perhaps? The French are more formal about their state than the British, e.g. election addresses to "Français et Françaises" or the other way round and calling people "citoyens" where we would not address the audience as "British people" or call people citizens in similar contexts. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 hrs (2014-03-12 19:08:10 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- The point about "concilier l’ensemble des enjeux et ... " is that a growing population, as well as contributing, also makes demands upon resources and makes forecasting future requirements more difficult. |
