Spanish term or phrase: IOT
Hi all -

I am translating a medical report on a patient admitted via triage as an emergency case suffering from congestive heart failure.

There is a small section of the report where they talk about medication administered and I don't know what IOT is referring to.

This is the context:
Codigo: C01CE004701
Descripción: INSUFFICIENCIA CARDIACA CONGESTIVA
Cantidad: 5
Posología: 2AMP IOT SE REPITE EN SEGUNDA HASTA QUE HAY ACCESO VENOSO Y OCASION SE SOLICITA 1 AMP EN BOLO

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

English translation:Intubación orotraqueal
Explanation:
Tiene sentido que se administran fármacos por esta vía durante la anestésia.

"La intubación orotraqueal (IOT) es una técnica realizada con frecuencia en los Servicios de Urgencias (SU)..."

Oh, sorry - I was supposed to write that in English! It's just too late in the day, so I'm tired. Anyway, in English it would be the same: orotracheal intubation, or OTI if you prefer the abbreviation. :)

intraósea tibial - tibial intraosseous (access)

Explanation:
Don't know if it fits in your context.

"Se compararon tres vías de acceso, intraósea tibial (IOT), intraósea humeral (IOH) e intravascular periférica (IVP). Para los accesos intraóseos ..."

"Tibial intraosseous access is clearly the best. ... a safe and fast alternative to intravenous access in patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest."

agree  argentinesinger: creo que es correcto...se utilizó un acceso intraóseo hasta que el paciente recuperó volemia y pudo obtenerse acceso intravenoso. Saludos!

neutral  Joseph Tein: I see online that OTI is sometimes used to administer drugs, but I don't think it would be used for adrenaline.//Interesting ... I didn't know that!

-> Yes, it may be used for adrenaline too. :) Google it or see this link: http://lnx.futuremedicos.com/IPQ/CD_IPQ/Ejemplos_cd/Intubaci... "el tubo endotraqueal proporcionará la primera vía para administrar adrenalina"// :)
