French translation: en grand apparat

English term or phrase: in pomp and grandeur
last but not least:

"The monarch being rowed ** in pomp and grandeur** up the river is an image which goes straight back to the Middle Ages.

pas sûre que "en grande pompe" soit utilisable ici, à mon avis cela peut avoir un sens un peu péjoratif que l'anglais n'a pas ici.

Merci de vos suggestions!

-> I was speaking French, not argot.

disagree  Odile Raymond: same as above comment, completely different meaning.

agree  Françoise Vogel: "en grande pompe" semble parfait (au pluriel, ce sont des chaussures) / ;-)

-> Pour le pluriel, je pensais au "Je renonce à Satan à ses pompes et ses oeuvres..."

neutral  Tony M: And it's supposed to be quite celebratory, not too 'solemn'; 'majestueusement', perhaps?
