English term or phrase: high drama and action
The physical form that correspondence took in the seventeenth century,
and the domestic settings in which letters were composed and read, is
beautifully illustrated in the many works made by Dutch genre painters
on this theme from the 1630s onwards. The choice of subject is
extraordinary in itself, men and women (but mostly women) reading
and writing letters. Painting has moved from the world of the gods,
the great and the good, to depict ordinary lives in domestic interiors,
from the world of high drama and action to suspended moments of
concentration.

io direi "intensa teatralità e tensione scenica" per mantenere l'immagine del teatro a confronto con quella domestica; anche perché, cercando in rete alcune immagini di dipinti, ho notato che nella maggior parte di essi, più che di drammaticità si tratta di un aspetto scenografico: sembrano ambientati su un palcoscenico per l'illuminazione, la disposizione degli elementi, i movimenti quasi esagerati dei personaggi ecc.

la parola "drammaticità" in italiano può essere ambigua e far pensare a forti emozioni, non al teatro... solo per questo ho pensato a sostituirla
