Мне показалось, что вариант "being in love" не совсем корректно отражает суть понятия, так как английское слово "love" должно означать нечто большее, чем русское "влюбленность", в каком бы виде оно ни использовалось. К тому же, исходная форма "to be in love", насколько я понимаю, подразумевает всё-таки именно любовь как некое сильное и глубокое чувство, а не влюбленность как непродолжительное романтическое приключение... А как в английском языке передать разницу между этими двумя чувствами?

Вот, собственно, тот самый текст, который меня заставил задуматься об этом:

Чувство влюбленности гораздо приятнее, чем так называемое "чувство любви". Понятно, что это лишь абстракции, и разные люди могут называть разными словами одни и те же чувства, но в среднем "любовь" "пахнет" какими-то трудностями. В то же время "влюбленность" ассоциируется с чем-то на 100% позитивным. Оно гораздо пронзительнее и воздушнее, оно легче, в тысячу раз ярче и светлее. От слова "любовь" веет чем-то мягким, стабильным, скучным. Оно настолько часто сопрягается с негативными последствиями, страданиями, что начинаешь невольно сомневаться: а нужна ли эта "любовь"?
"Неразделенная любовь", "несчастная любовь". Никто не говорит "неразделенная влюбленность", или "несчастная влюбленность".
Влюбленность ассоциируется с движением вперед, желанием достигать и совершенствоваться.
Я бы предпочел чувствовать "пылкую влюбленность", чем скучную "любовь навеки".

What you are describing is known as "infatuation" in English. You can say fervent, fiery, ardent, passionate or any similar adjective to describe пылкий. I chose hot-blooded for my answer but really I could have just as easily written lustful infatuation.

'Passionate infatuation' would probably be the best translation to render the meaning of this Russian syntagm. And I also liked Alexandra's suggestion with 'crush'. Infatuation is a new word for me but a 'crush' sounds very familiar and easy to remember :)

With hints of 'lust' and 'exceptional degree of romantic interest', this word is less open to a variety of interpretations than 'love'.

I hope this helps. 'Infatuation' is another thing that comes to mind - it has the connotations of a strong romantic interest which is somewhat superficial, certainly less serious than 'love' in the inseparable, long-term sense.
