Italian term or phrase: stanza monografica
A monograph is a text which addresses a singe subject or in art a single artist. This is a room in a museum containing works by one artist only. Can I call it a monograph or do I have to invent something like "room dedicated entirely to works by MS..."

Probably too late, but another option which I think would fit the bill quite snappily and sounds like museum-speak. I think I know the museum you're talking about!

The Mario Sironi room holds a dining room set by the artist that was presented at the Sixth Milan Triennial

Incidentally I had a similar query about a "mostra monografica" recently, but my other half (who works in a gallery) poo-poo'd (sp?) "monographic" out of hand and said "solo show" would be the industry term.

I would not use "solo", here. I do not think it is an appropriate term in the field of visual arts

"Monographic exhibition" seems to be quite widespread as an expression, not so much "monographic room" which continues to sound awkward to me

Asker: Hi Cynthia. Does that mean you are 100% certain that you cannot talk about a "monograph room"? For example with Atelier you have the choice of leaving it as is or translating as "artist's studio".

Asker: "I am not 100% sure but it does not sound familiar to me, it sounds rather like an imitation of Italian." That was basically my starting point when I posted. Is anybody 100% sure? Googling doesn't work because you can't filter out all the written monographs. Another translator has used "monograph".

Asker: And then somebody says, but why didn't you translate with "monograph"? They had one at the New York MoMA just last month!

agree  philgoddard: Yes, the Italian is effectively a tautology, and "monograph" would be wrong. An "esibizione monografica" is a single-artist exhibition. I wouldn't use "specially".
