French to English translations [PRO] Social Sciences - General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
French term or phrase:Adhérant magasin
Many apologies for the lack of context but as this is simply a list of job titles in response to a survey asking people what their job title is. So this is all I have in a separate list and I am struggling with this meaning!
My best guess is that this is a survey that was given in, or in front of, one of the many stores that have a some kind of customer loyalty card or program, and that the person who was answering the survey was pulling the surveyor's leg, or being a little bit sarcastic, by stating that membership in that program was his or her job. That's only a made-up scenario, of course. I'm just trying to imagine situation in which that response might be given.
;-) It did cross my mind that "magasin" might be being used in the sense of "magasinier", but that still leaves the original problem of the what the term "adhérEnt" is doing there.
I think Catharine may be on to something with 'stores' rather than 'shop' — and I wonder if the person wasn't maybe struggling to find the right word, like 'préposé', for example.
Unless it was someone trying to say that they were 'on attachment to...'?

yes it is French French but of course these respondents have been asked a question out of context! So who knows what they have said - they could have been caught off guard.
Is it possible that the respondent is bigging up their job? So they work in a store but think they own it?? The purpose of the survey Is not clear sorry. I will ask my client.
I think the original should read : "adhérent magasin" which still fails to make sense to me as a job title! How can a "store member" be a job title? immediately made me think of the FNAC, until I came to the question and saw it was a job title. I wish I could give more context but honestly, the respondents range from steel workers and hospital cleaners to school head teachers (I wonder how this research can even make sense given the range of respondents!)

For a start, are these simply random members of the general publi? Or is there any connection between them, like all working more or less for the same organization, or in the same place (e.g. a shopping centre)? What is the purpose of the survey?
