when all is said and done, that's a good idea, changing the language of the glossary entry is the most that can be done at this point and sort of solves the issue, whereupon it became a non-issue. Please somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm under the impression that askers are free to choose whichever answer they deem "the most helpful" (not necessarily the best answer, that is), so all's fine on this front, too.
Other than that, too bad though that nobody knows what the proper answer is. Would you mind clueing me (us) in, Nathaniel? I'm truly intrigued to find out. Thank you! :-)

no přes němčinu se dá klidně jít, i když v tomto případě ne moc daleko, protože jak víte její gramatika je nám blízko, akorát by bylo opravdu lepší nedávat německý výraz jako odpověď. Nota bene Asker nikdy neřekl, jak to přeložil, což je škoda, neboť to německé slovo mu pouze "pomohlo".

No mne neprekáža ani tak to, že sa na to išlo zhodou okolností cez nemčinu. V každom prípade je ale škoda, že nakoniec nikto nie je múdrejší ohľadom toho, aký je najpresnejší preklad.

možná také že někdo kdo se narodil v CZ/SK je více citlivý na to, že ti Slovani jsou takoví "debílci", s odpuštěním, že nejsou schopni přeložit svůj docela hezký výraz nijak jinak než ošetřovatel práva v němčině, nad kterým je ale vždy "pořádný" doktor. Pokud se nemýlím, tak ne všichni Slovani se tak rádi odvolávají na němčinu, jak se může někdo zdánlivě domnívat. Ale to je dlouhá diskuze a myslím že si zde po tak divném "uzavření otázky" ani nezaslouží tu energii. A děkuji za vaši energii.

ten link, který jsem původně ale nedala já ale Stuart, se mi taky nelíbí, ale bohužel má 6 souhlasů u anglických němčinářů; ale nechci mlátit prázdnou slámu, nejsme pod Habsburgs nebo Austrian Empire atd atd.

ale o rozdiel medzi Českou republikou a Slovenskom mi tu nešlo. Skôr som chcel povedať, že v anglicko-nemeckom fóre, na ktorý ste dali link, prekladali Rechtspfleger ako judicial officer, pritom podľa všetkých linkov, ktoré som vyššie prilepil, patrí medzi "judicial officers" aj "judge" a pod., čo je dosť mimo "vyššieho súdneho úradníka".

The Rechtspfleger is a specialized court officer who replaces the judge in a limited area of legal activity. The German term is not translated here because, as far as I know, equivalent or comparable court officers do not exist in in comman law jurisdictions. When I described the functions of a Rechtspfleger to English speaking judges during a discussion between German judges and judges from other countries in Berlin in 2008, an American judge referred to them as "mini judges".

Sorry if this is beside the point, but if I'm to trust the definitions below, then - and contrary to the general agreement in the German-English forum referred to above - "Rechtspfleger" shouldn't be translated as "judicial officer". By the same token, "vyšší súdny úradník" is a far cry from "judicial officer", simply because the latter terms usually appears to include judges, magistrates, etc. In the unlikely event that the links below are all wrong, please disregard my comments. :-)

Also, it is not an issue of going into the library, the issue is that when you put vyšší súdny úradník into Proz terminology search, you will get a German name in the Slovakto English, i.e. it has no educational value.

Sorry, I rarely come on here except when I have a question, so I am not silent intentionally. I did not put the answer into the library or whatever it is called here, as I do realise it was not the precise answer. But my point was that out of all the answers, Stuart's was the most "helpful" because it gave me the most context from which I was able to arrive at the proper (in my opinion) translation. There will never be one consensus in translation. Just saying. :)

my biggest problem with this is that this is now going into the Kudoz, meaning that anyone from anywhere in the world will get a Rechtspfleger for vyšší soudní úředník in Slovak into English, and that is something I am very sorry to see.
