Swedish term or phrase: Rilldjupet
Rilldjupet förbi korsningspunkten skall vara 16 mm, med på och avkörningsramper ned till rilldrup 24 mm åt ändarna.

This is taken from a specification provided by Banverket or SL. I've been told by one colleague rilldjup is flangeway depth, however, two of his work mates disagree. Needless to say, I'm a little confused.

Thanks Mats, Deane & Anna! Since my posting I've been able to consult with one of the engineers involved in this project. who confirmed that in this context - namely tramlines - rilldjup is indeed ''flangeway depth' as suggested by Anna & Deane in the reference comments. However, that doesn't make 'groove depth' altogether incorrect, it's just that flangeway depth' is appropriate in this specific case. Grateful thanks to all

Well, here I presumed we all agreed on 'flangeway', in this context. This is used to described the space (groove) that allows the wheel flange to pass in a road-rail intersection.
