I'm not sure how to translate directrice d'axe here: is she the brand manager or something more generic? I'd be grateful for your thoughts.

Category manager does sound promising, thanks. I'd seen Global Marketing Director in some of the LinkedIn entries but wasn't convinced it was the direct equivalent of Directeur d'Axe. I have referred this back to my client for clarification and he's going to ask the end client, so I'll report back if I get any more information. Many thanks to you all.

The entry I posted seems to have disappeared :-) In two of the major cosmetics companies I work for, the "axes" refer to the product divisions or categories. For example, one of the companies has three major divisions: fragrance, skincare and makeup. Hope this helps.

Thanks Karen - I'm glad it's not just me! I wondered about Section Manager or Area Manager, but I'm loath to be more specific than necessary. Have scrolled the website and the LinkedIn pages for this person, but can't find an English equivalent!

Hi Claire. Just to say that I agree that this is tricky. 'Area of research' or 'focus' often works in texts, but as a job title I'm stumped too. An axe is probably more than one brand. It's usually a whole area of development, such as a chunk of a FCMG company's products, so she would be in charge of several brands. I'll watch and see what people come up with.

I am fairly sure that it means manager/director of an activity-focussed (as opposed to client) organisational division within the company. In this case, the activity is consumer products. I have come across such organisational divisions being called "Business Centres"; however, that really wouldn't work here as a "Business Centre" is commonly a building! So, I suggest Business Activity Director/Manager.
