English translation: Pre 1

French term or phrase: pré 1
I am translating a spirometry report from Algeria. It contains a table with four columns. The first column is a list of parameters (CVF, VEMS, VEMS/CVF, etc.). The other columns consist of numbers and have the following headings: Théo., Pré 1 and % Th. I am wondering if Pré 1 means “best pre”. Or does it refer to something else? “Pré 1” also appears alone in the upper right corner of two line graphs. Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

English translation:Pre 1
Explanation:
It would help to have more context but it looks like this is a spirometry table showing pulmonary function test results before and after using theophylline, an oral bronchodilator.

The CVF, VEMS and VEMS/CVF refer to FVC, FEV1 and FEV1/FVC respectively.
The values under the Theo header should be higher than the corresponding values under the Pre 1 header if the patient is asthmatic. The % Theo numbers should be the ratio Theo/Pre in percent.

The "1" may refer to pre number 1 or the best pre. (Pre refers to the numbers before using the theophylline as in pre/post.)

neutral  Michael Barnett: Hi Liz. We have essentially the same translation, but unless the source text makes a specific reference to theophylline, I like your explanation better, but not 1 second - it would then refer only to the FEV1 row (VEMS).//You spoiled it with the 1 second.
