French term or phrase: effectivement*** utilisée
Hello

In the following formula and explanation, I can't work out if 'effectivement*** utilisée ' (last line) should be translated as

'effectively used' (used efficiently) or 'in effect' (in reality)

Can an expert help?

thanks

Ep = [ 1 - Q / [ E / ( 1 - t ) ηcc + C / ηt ] ] 100

Explanation:
is how I read it. This might be what you're translating:

http://portail.cder.dz/spip.php?article3443
les quantités d’énergie primaire consommée, d’énergie électrique produite et d’énergie thermique effectivement utilisée permettant la détermination de l’économie d’énergie primaire pour le cas des installations de cogénération.

This seems to bear out "actually":

Thermal efficiency is the rate between the useful heat energy actually used in heating the water and total heat energy generated.

heat actually utilized for heating the water

TE = heat actually utilized for heating the water / total heat produced electrically

heat actually utilized for heating the water =ms(Q2-Q1)

Where

m = mass of water in gram

S=time in second

Q1=initial temp of water

Q2=final temp of water

Heat produced electrically = vit/j

= I2Rt / J kwh

= V2t / RJ kwh

Thermal efficiency is represented by eta (η) (formula I can't copy)

agree  writeaway: oeuf corse, not just in techy context (I am referring to the term actually asked, not to your super-pro (and for me 100% incomprehensible) explanation of the techy part, which is certainly NOT in the realm of 'everyday' Fr).

neutral  writeaway: since effectivement (actually) was the Asker's main problem, this could have simply been added in a peer agree.

neutral  B D Finch: No, energy consumed exceeds the amount of energy actually used, because it includes energy metered but wasted. The utility company charges for the energy consumed, even if some of the heat produced just goes up the chimney.
