Swedish term or phrase: Flaggskylt
A type of (advertising/shop) sign protruding from the facade of the building.

Flag sign gives some decent hits, but also seems to be used for a number of other applications.

Explanation:
I think flag mount wall sing might be a more accurate/technical term for what you are referring to. Found this picture with a bunch of different sign names: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.1stopvisual.c...

Google "types of signs", but look at google images rather than normal search results. You'll def. find what you're looking for!

neutral  Charlesp: a "flag mount wall sign" could be, but it is not limited to that (ie this term could be too limiting).

protruding sign

Explanation:
Or "protruding pole sign," if that is what it actually is.

"En flaggskylt är en skylt som står ut från en fasad liksom en flagga. Den kallas även pendelskylt om de är frihängande"

Not necessarily a flag flying with the name of the enterprise, i.e. an advertising flag - though perhaps that is where the word originated.

And it isn't necessarily hanging, though in former times that was the technology available. Nowadays they are installed more professionally (see the picture, the second web reference).

agree  Deane Goltermann: Nice idea you have here, I see you already got to wiki...

-> (actually I didn't see the "protruding" in the question until I posted the Answer. It was spontanous. (and I don't always read everything posted, rather only look at the term at issue) -- sort of a rush to post before someone else posts my idea....

agree  Charlesp: Could be. But a "Hanging sign" is called a pendelskylt om de är frihängande.

agree  Michael Ellis: I agree Deane. If you Google "Hanging projecting sign", about 10 entries down, there is one from www.gloucester.gov.uk, which describes Hanging sign and Projecting sign (differently). This follows official Planning (Zoning) definitions.

sorry
I perhaps shouldn't have given myself a 5 here as Deane could be right too. But the asker spoke of 'sail' and so I immediately saw a 'sail sign flag' in my head
