Portuguese term or phrase: a partida é manual
Olá gente!

I am translating a script for a documentary on a woman who goes to work on a Bolivian salt flat. This passage mentions a car which is 'partida manual'. I'd like to check if just means the car is manual, as opposed to automatic, or if it means they have to push it to start it. Here is the text:

"Karina entra no carro do Hugo. Os dois seguem para o salar.
Lá extraem o sal durante um bom tempo. Carregam o caminhãozinho.

Karina entra no carro. É ela quem vai dirigir. ***A partida é manual***. O carro pára a todo instante. Esquenta o radiador. No frio, com o vento na cara, ela é obrigada a colocar água no radiador. A duras penas, eles chegam a Colchani."

It's to US English. Thanks for your help!

the car is hand cranked

Explanation:
Cars these days don't have a hand crank option - the last cars that you had to hand crank to start them were built in the 1950s and 1960s. If you have an old car that needs to be hand cranked then there is knack to it as if you get it wrong the crank handle can break your wrist. You lift the crank handle up and then flick it down and round but without holding on to it.
