I am not happy with the standard dictionary definition of this as 'engineering school' or 'engineer's school' as clearly the equivalence isn't the same.
Is it best to leave in French with same explanation in brackets? And if so how to convey the French sense of this type of grande école?

Je crois qu'il faut reprendre la sémantique.
En Anglais Engineer vient de Engine (moteur)
En Allemand on parle de Ingenieur (Doktor)
En Espagnol on parle de Ingeniero
En latin on écrit ingeniarius (quoique ?)
En France on parle d'ingénieur, qui vient de ?? ingénieux ou !!
A l'étranger, les 'engineers' sont le plus souvent des mécaniciens de base, n'ayant jamais fait d'école
