Part of а letter in which the writer is trying to sell his business ideas. Second question from same context.

Информационное общество, с одной стороны помогает продвижению и развитию компании, а с другой стороны, - может очень сильно навредить, если наши конкуренты будут использовать недобросовестные методы информационных “вбросов” или ***“уток”***, используя интернет как оружие против нас.

I am assuming this is the plural of утка and not the singular of уток. So is it "canards", as the French for "duck" is used in English to mean a false story? There might be a better word than "canard" for Internet use.
