Die grosse französische Stadt Bordeaux mit Hafen an der Garonne und Zugang zum Meer gibt ihren Namen einer Weinbau-region, die sich über das gesamte Departement Gironde erstreckt und mehr Wein in Spitzenqualität produziert als jedes andere Anbaugebiet. Nirgendwo sonst entstehen so viele der teuersten und gesuchtesten Weine der Welt. Die Weinbaubereiche von Bordeaux schmiegen sich eng an die Gironde sowie an die in sie mündende Flüsse. Insgesamt sind es über 50 Apellationen von denen jedoch viele ausserhalb der Region kaum bekannt sind. Das milde Klima von Bordeaux ist wie geschaffen für die Entstehung eleganter Weine, die sich mehr durch Subtilität als durch Wucht auszeichnen.
