Does the translator write "what the customer intended to say," or does the translator write "what the customer actually wrote, even if the original has an obvious error in it." ?

In this particular case, Sven is entirely correct (and 10 points for that), that talonger does mean "talons," however the specific terms in the question relate to shares, and not bonds. Talons, as I understand it, only relate to bonds, and have no connection to shares of a company.

In which case, Deane is correct is suggesting that the more general term "counterfoil" should be used, as this is what the document meant to say (in which case, the translation corrects an inadvertent error by the customer.
