Stress supports

The stress supports are the piping supports whose function and positioning are chosen on the basis of the flexibility requirements of the piping, coming from the stress analysis verification calculations.
Are to be considered as stress supports: spring supports, stops, anchors, supports on PTFE, saddles for large-diameter piping and shock absorbers.

Non stress supports

The non stress supports are the piping supports which are not positioned and chosen on the basis of the flexibility requirements, but with the purpose of maintaining the stresses due to the piping’s own weight and to any external loads within the limit sets in the reference standards.
Are considered as “non-stress supports”: supports or hangers foreseen to limit the sag of the piping, guides to keep the piping in its own way, auxiliary supports for maintenance.
