I don't think there's too much harm in using 'prisoner', though i do feel Polyglot's suggestion of 'victim' is perhaps more batural (cf. expressions like 'a victim of his own success').

However, I do think it is vital to insert that 'own' in there, simply for the whole thing to make sense.

I don't think that there is anything unnatural in the use of the word "prisoner" in English. Apple has been criticised for secrecy, particularly in the context of its dealings with users in China. Their policies have been challenged for a mainly one-way information flow (detail inwards, waffle outwards). I think that the idea is that policies that have been developed to protect the company's commercial interests cannot be easily and rapidly changed when they are shown to be counterproductive.

Le sens est "Apple est tenu à sa politique de communication" ou "est astreint à sa politique..." Je pense à quelque chose comme "is compelled to follow/rely on its own communications policy". Quelqu'un pourra peut-être confirmer...

that is the translation i had in mind but is it not too literal? translating prisonier as prisoner in english. Is there any other equivalent in english ? thnx
