French term or phrase: balafre (in this sense)
What is the English word for this term, also referred as "estocade", when talking about the deep slash or gouge marks made in the bark of large diameter trees by stags or bucks in rut? The term "frottis" (rub, buck rub) is also used in this text, but for damage (smaller trees, saplings) in which the bark is shredded or scraped rather gouged.
