Explanation:
Pôvodne bolo toto plemeno nazývané podľa svojej farby "Black and Tan Terrier", často tiež aj "Rat Terrier". Kennel Club v Anglicku zapísal v roku 1873 do plemennej knihy "Black and Tan Terrier". Keďže najvýznamnejší chovatelia boli v okolí Manchestru, plemeno sa premenovalo na "Manchester Terrier". Nie všetci chovatelia s týmto pomenovaním súhlasili, v roku 1884 bol rýchlo založený klub, ktorého názov bol "Black and Tan Terrier Club of England" a tieto hádky trvali ešte niekoľko rokov, než sa definitívne rozhodlo medzi týmito dvomi spomínanými menami. Konečne v roku 1924 bol oficiálne uznaný názov "Manchester Terrier", ktorý sa používa dodnes.
