I know the general meaning is "police report" but how would you say it in English when the case involves spoiled food being sold at a grocery store for example (a complaint filed with the Consumer Protection Agency - Delegacia do Consumidor). Would be appropriate to just say police report?

Thanks!

Food Safety Inspection Results

Inspections are a "snapshot" of the day and time of the inspection. Also, at the time of the inspection, violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility.

Inspection results are posted as inspections are conducted, and only represent eating and drinking establishments and retail food establishments that fall under the inspection jurisdiction of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, and those county and local health departments which have elected to post results. Currently, approximately 40 local health department inspection results can be found on the department's website.

Boletim de Ocorrência
food service violation

Explanation:
e.g.,

Intermediate food service violations are those which, if not addressed, could lead to risk factors that contribute to foodborne illness or injury. Intermediate lodging violations are those which relate to specific actions, equipment or procedures that contribute to the occurrence of a high priority violation if left unaddressed.

And we would hope that their food service license would be revoked for this feast period once the real inspectors see this, being cooked but not hot served left this open to food service violation issues.

an alternative

I don't know if "police report" would be right - because I'm not sure how much the Delegacia do Consumidor is staffed by police - or by what people understand as police. Something the asker could look up.

So mine are suggestions for a term that's more neutral, but yet official.

In the US, one files a complaint with the Consumer Protection Agency.

Other ideas:

Consumer Protection Agency (formal) complaint
or
Consumer Protection Agency filed complaint

The BO as I understand it is not the inspection of the case - it's the complaint. It's also not the violation - it's the complaint about the violation.

neutral  Alessandro Massulo: It is staffed by police. Also she said "(a complaint filed with the Consumer Protection Agency - Delegacia do Consumidor)" - So, a complaint, wich is what the BO is, as you said. And the fact occured on Brazil, so it was not reported to the CPA.

-> My reply in the discussion box. If it's a Delegacia, it's not an Agency. It would be wrong to translate "Cons. Prot. Agency" AND "police report." Either translate everything literally or make a cultural adaptation. Or add an explanation.

Police Report

Explanation:
I think it would be better to say police report, since the "Delegacia do Consumidor" is a police department. If the case had been reported to the Health Department, just report would do it.

(but I'm just think about the fidelity of the translation, not how to make it more easily understandable for the "target readers".)

neutral  veratek: Well, if she is not going to culturally adapt the translation, then she can't use "Consumer Protection Agency" either because a Delegacia is not an Agency. You have to translate everything literally then.
