French term or phrase: polaires de vitesses
Target=UK

Entre temps, le routage à terre est interdit et l’informatique fait un bond en avant colossal avec les logiciels intégrant polaires de vitesse et prévisions météo.

I've found polar curves for airplanes, but am not convinced this is the same thing as what they use on racing yachts.

Could anyone confirm this for me?

Run a Google search in the images section and you'll get hits for boat speed as a function of true wind speed etc etc.

And hydro and air dynamics for both air and water navigation have many terms in common, many of the design and construction techniques being borrowed from the aeronautical field, although boats are more complicated as they move through both water and the air.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks Nikki. I did see a few speed polars, but couldn't find any technical data on them. I'm always wary of using what would appear to be a straightforward translation. Your link is convincing enough for me.
