Reference: Other sources Reference information: After an erroneous and now hidden suggestion, where I had suggested “plate” which corresponds no doubt to “plaque” and not to “patte” which describes an extension from the plate, then I now agree with Liz’s reading. One teeny weeny reserve emerges in my bird brain, is that only one manufacturer uses the term suggested : EOS. Orthopedics is not my field, but manufacturers do differ in the terms they employ, probably for patenting reasons. The manufacturer in the original is Biotech with the Easylock range and so it would be nice to find something they use as standard in-house terminology or a term which had more widespread use across the field. Here is Biotech’s Easylock brochure for plates they manufacture for arthrodesis foot surgery (the PE 120601 plate may be of interest : http://www.biotech-ortho.com/protocoles/XS_plate_eng.pdf This source is a translated version of course. However, if the company is already using specific in-house English versions for specific products and you know the product reference, then it might be a good idea to use that. Not knowledgeable enough here to anything other than point this out. As an alternative to Liz ‘s « phalangeal arm » here are a couple of suggestions from another manufacturer. They do not necessarily describe exactly the same as the “phalangeal arm” which is a sort of pre-bent extension. The self-explanatory “T-plate”, “H-plate” and “Y-plate”. The term “offset ear” may also be useful. http://evansmed.com/orthohelix/ A range of other sources : http://footandanklefixation.com/procedure/1st-mpj-arthrodesi... and where « offset ear » appears again : http://footandanklefixation.com/product/orthohelix-maxlock-e... with the manufacturer OrthoHeli. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 17 hrs (2013-04-13 11:17:25 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- "Ears" are shorter than "arms" in context. |
