German term or phrase: übernehmen
Davon profitieren auch ausländische und grenznahe Kunden, die direkt in den Gateway-Satelliten einspeisen und abgeholte Sendungen übernehmen können.

How would you best translate 'übernehmen' here? collect maybe?

Many thanks

English translation:take over; take on; take responsibility for
Explanation:
Odd wording in your text, but I think this is what they mean - or one of these, anyway. Your own idea of "collect" isn't far off the mark, either, but I'm not sure if it "incorporates" the idea of subsequent handling in quite the same way.

based on the "davon profitieren" but I think more context would help clarify this

maybe even "adopt"

or: "pinch" as in steal if we want to call a spade a spade

I think we have to include an element of clandestine profiting here so "pinch" might do it

"adopt" in the figurative sense of course
