From the log of a tugboat that assisted a ship during berthing.
Does this mean that the tugboat passed a cable over the ship that was berthing, or something else more specific?
Any help would be very gratefully received.
Here is how it appears in my text:
"Às XXXX máquinas prontas saindo do cais rumando para CPBS. Às XXXX of Prático XXXX solicitou que este operasse na proa com cabo passado. Às XXXX foi o término da manobra do navio XXXX berço sul CPBS com XXXX [tugboat], XXXX rumando para o cais."

Passando o cabo : A fase mais crítica do procedimento de passar os cabos é quando se pega a retinida. O rebocador encontra-se então na posição mais próxima à proa. Quando a retinida já se encontra amarrada e o cabo mensageiro está sendo passado ao navio, o rebocador pode se mover um pouco mais para longe do navio.

Hawser is a nautical term for a thick cable or rope used in mooring or towing a ship. A hawser passes through a hawsehole, also known as a cat hole,located on the hawse.
