Spanish term or phrase: lo que menos importa
Seems like a strange thing to say in the context, unless it's said with irony, and if so if I say something like "less importantly", is the irony also lost or do I need to add something?

disagree  liz askew: oooh, I think this is too strong here and conveys too much sarcasm/irony; or even disrespect for human life, which is not what this means IMHO, also "like it even matters" is far too colloquial

what’s even less important

Explanation:
I think that “menos” is part of the person’s irony in that people’s lives are what’s most important.

Explanation:
Putting "seems" makes the author's disgust evident.

As the 2010 Appeals Panel Decision notes, the home and away scheduling model has been
promised since 2008/2009. It is now 2011 and we are no closer to a resolution of this matter
than we were three years ago. WDDOA, CAYSA and now, sadly, AAYSA have coerced
STYSA’s EC into abdicating its responsibility to the rest of the District. The playing rules don’t
matter. Constitutions don’t matter. By Laws don’t matter. Grievances and Appeals don’t
matter. ***What seems to matter least of all*** is any concept of fairness or equality of opportunity.

or, least importantly, how many....?

Explanation:
Not very different from a couple of other suggestions. I just wanted to agree with Ellen that there is no need to interpret and mold the sentence in order to make the assumed irony clear. If the original writer had wanted to make the irony clear in Spanish they could have done so very easily. The ambiguity exists in the original and should be maintained in the translation.

lo que menos importa
last, and apparently least

Explanation:
This play on "last but not least" may be worth considering.

I reckon the "last/least" thing conveys the irony rather better than the Spanish, actually. But I do beleive this was the intended message.

Example sentence(s):
  • …o lo que menos importa, ¿Cuántas vidas hemos perdido?
  • ...and last, and apparently least: How many lives have we lost?
