without you, it ain't fun Explanation: Sampoerna is very creative in disguising their true message. Once they used How low can you go? to market its low nicotine cigarette. Or, Go Ahead with a stress on the A, to market Sampoerna A product line (=intepretable as Please, go ahead smoking Sampoerna A). Gak ada loe gak rame is a two-pronged message: (a) literally, there will be no fun without you; (b) there will be no fun without smoking [this brand]. It will be hard to find a translation that covers both, IMHO. I don't know if any English speaker will ever interpret you as you and/or smoking this brand like Indonesian may interpret loe as kamu dan/atau rokok merek ini. To introduce informality, ain't is a good way, I guess. You may even try the double negative version that seems to be very popular in the web (with more than 114k hits): without you, it ain't no fun |
