Dirigente category Explanation: Dirigente is not a job title but a 'category', the highest. From the bottom you have operai (blue collar), impiegati (white collar), in some labour contracts 'quadri' = junior managers and specialists. On top of all are 'dirigenti'. They have a separate work contract, better benefits, pension etc. It has nothing to do with job title. Anyone above a certain managerial level can be made a Dirigente and so can some senior e.g. Account Managers or Data Processing Consultants who are not even managing anybody (but may be bringing in a lot of money for their company). It is a recognition of status and has no equivalent outside Italy, which is why I say not to translate it -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2013-02-25 08:51:33 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- In your case, it would be the CEO who is proposing to the board that they promote XXX, Marketing and Communications Director, to the Dirigente category. His job title will not change (but he gets kudos and probably a salary increase!) |
