The purpose of the CCL – PROOF OF PURCHASE AT AUCTION – is to enhance the qualitative and quantitative value of catches traded at auction on mainland Portugal, and thus to improve the sustainability and yield of the fishing sector in Portugal by identifying and differentiating the catches in the auctions for the final consumer.

• It is a product that is controlled from source, which has benefits for the consumer and environment alike.
• Most of the fish are caught by Portuguese vessels off the Portuguese coast. This means less expenditure on energy while fishing and with land transport, which in turn means lower atmospheric emissions.
• Furthermore, fish auction catch is caught with an eye on the future since it is fully traceable, by law. It also respects the seasonality of each species and the established quotas, thereby conserving fish stocks.
• CCL also specifies where the fish was caught and the gear used. Consumers therefore have all the information they need to make an informed, responsible purchase

Pursuant to Decree-law 107/90 of 27 March, it provides the public service on mainland Portugal of organising the first sale of fish and supports the fishing and fishing ports sector.
This means that Docapesca operates in several locations on mainland Portugal, but its headquarters are in Lisbon. It has six branches: Norte, Matosinhos, Centro Norte, Centro, Centro Sul and Sul.
