Afternoon all,

This is from the introduction of a medical publication (lab test procedures) by the Spanish wing of a large German Laboratory.

I’ve been asked to render the English as simple as possible (i.e., cut out the waffle), and could do with some inspiration.

All suggestions welcome.

Source text is from Spain, and I’m going into US English:

“Esta obra sale, por fin, a la luz pública, gracias al empeño que ha puesto en ello hace mucho tiempo Don Fulano de Tal, primero ilusionándonos con el trabajo en cuestión y, hasta hoy, estando pendiente del mismo en todo momento, interesándose por la marcha del proyecto, convocando reuniones con los consultores para intercambiar conocimientos, corregir defectos e ir poniendo todo el material en solfa. En todas las reuniones ha estado presente, desplazándose desde donde se encontrara y ha participado muy activamente en ellas, demostrando en todo momento sus amplios conocimientos.”

Explanation:
I have tried to take account of your instructions and keep it simple. Really "salir a la luz pública" doesn't mean any more than "appear" or "be published". You really don't need "que ha puesto en ello". "Efforts", plural, seems most natural for "empeño" ("determination" is also a possibility, but it doesn't go so well with "prolonged" or any alternative that occurs to me). Cutting the phrase "hace mucho tiempo" down to "prolonged" covers the meaning, I think, while keeping it brief and improving the flow.

"At last" seems more natural to me here than "finally"; "is finally being published" is certainly OK, but it somehow expresses a certain weariness, which may not be appropriate. Perhaps that's just me.
