French term or phrase: industrialisation artisanale
This comes from the text accompanying a video included in a website for a small firm which produces luxury costume jewellery for high-end fashion houses in Paris.

"La fabrication et la production c’est quoi finalement : c’est faire aboutir en 10 semaines la production de plusieurs milliers de pièces extrêmement compliquées. Dans ce sens, on peut parler d’industrialisation artisanale."

I'm hesitating about how to translate "industrialisation artisanale". I thought of cottage industry but is that only used for things produced at home? Or perhaps small-scale industry?

agree  laenai: For me, this is definitely the right idea. As Andrew states in his answer, "Small-scale industry" doesn't really relay the idea of skilled craftsmanship.

the industrialization of the skilled crafts industry

Explanation:
"Cottage industry," doesn't necessarily mean home-based, but it does imply a loosely organized operation. A high-end costume jewelry maker on the Paris market would not fit into this category. Small-scale industry doesn't emphasis the skill-set and specialization involved in the production of crafted luxury goods.

artisan industrialization

Explanation:
Why not keep the artisan in things? Or "industrializing artisanship" but I don't like the sound of that even though I think it's more along the lines of the meaning they're getting at.

Check Google and you'll see that some folk have even research artisan industrialization.

neutral  Michael GREEN: I think we should use extreme caution when calling up the Great God Google - this is both ugly and sounds what it is - a straight calque from the source text
